Business advisory and accounting service.
Zac Hayes and his business HA Accounting, have recently been awarded ‘Fastest growing firm in Victoria’ at the SMSF and Accounting Awards. One of many great successes for a business that started in 2016 with help from the NEIS program. At these awards, HA Accounting also picked up ‘New Firm of the Year’, and Zac personally won ‘Professional of the year – regional’ 2018. These are the most recent wins for a young man of 26 who started his business in a rural town in Victoria with a population of around 2000.
After leaving his old company, Zac was encouraged by clients to pursue a different approach to accounting. He decided to start the NEIS program to really explore what he wanted to do and how it could be achieved. Zac undertook NEIS training at Wodonga TAFE, considering his options and developing his ideal business plan.
“The most valuable thing I learned during the NEIS program was to focus on goals, rather than just the numbers,” says Zac. “I also learned to put myself in a client’s position and see things from their point of view. This gave me the tools to give clients more value from their experience with HA Accounting.”
Zac now leads 6 people in 2 offices located in Lavington and Tocumwal. He believes being from regional Australia can be a real advantage – not a disadvantage. Things have grown quickly with new office renovations to be finished in March 2019. “The NEIS program really made me think about how to run my business from a management and daily operations perspective too,” says Zac. A young, innovative team has been assembled; providing clients with the personalised and professional services they want. The team works with small businesses to improve systems and put strategies and digital technologies in place to free more time to spend in the business rather than worrying about finances.
Finding good people to work with and recognising opportunities was an aspect of the NEIS training that Zac embraced straight away. Getting a good mix of services and the people to manage them was an important aspect of the business plan. New team member Regan was a finalist for ‘Newcomer of the year’ at the same SMSF and Accounting Awards recently held in Melbourne.
It’s been a year of growth for Zac and the team, both professionally and personally. Regan has recently been promoted to Client Manager, Laura is now heading up the tax and compliance division assisted by Trish, and Natalie is Practice Manager. There will also be another new team member soon.
There is a new financial planning arm, Limitless Financial Services, headed by Nat with Zac as advisor. “I’m so excited to grow the business in this area and to offer strategic advice from a team of millennials. We already have had a great response from our existing accounting clients and are looking forward to watching clients kick their financial goals in 2019 and beyond,” says Zac.
Many clients are understanding the power of synchronising their businesses with cloud technologies. With Xero software now offering over 700 apps, Regan is looking at the future of this product market, working with clients to improve efficiencies using elements like live data.
A lot of detail and a lot of hard work has been put into the business by Zac Hayes. Good luck to all the team at HA Accounting, it looks like an exciting future lies ahead.
