Upon completion of his NEIS training, Pascal Menezes opened The Red Balloon Candy Artisans. The Melbourne rock candy business started as a small retail kitchen specialising in the wedding and corporate industries. Pascal’s innovative ideas soon led to exciting opportunities, including collabs with musicians and artists; and in 2016 Red Balloon opened their first franchise in Kuwait.
In 2017 they converted their entire range to vegan, made pop culture candy sculptures for a client in South Korea, and a dream came true with a creative commission from MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) in Tasmania. Pascal developed blown sugar spheres for the Museum, that became part of an interactive dessert for the launch of the ‘Pharos’ room designed by American artist James Turrell.
Pascal proudly claims that ‘Looking back to where the company started, there is no doubt that the business would not have succeeded without the direction, support and co-operation of NEIS back in 2006.’

Pascal continues to innovate, and his experiments have lead to more successes, including a new range of fruit-flavoured honeycomb! In January 2018 they increased their range to 15 flavours including Mandarin Fizz and Sweet & Sour Salty Chilli. Follow the Red Balloon’s adventures on Instagram.
